“Affectation is the ridiculous effort of the ignorant to appear wise, the attempt of the barren soul to appear rich.”  [UB 557:01]

Thought Adjuster: “In other words, affectation is a pretentious attitude of make-believe—pretending to be more than one is—a subtle or not so subtle form of deception, including self-deception.

“What triggers such a behavior?  Paradoxically, it could be a lack of self-esteem, possibly tied up with complacency, that leads someone to act as superior to others to mask a severe inferiority complex.  Since affectation requires an effort, wouldn’t it be smarter to spend your energetic quota in taking the necessary measures to acquire real wisdom—rather than faking it?

“Your spiritual growth has to be initiated from the ground zero of humility.  Humility helps you admit that you have to start at the bottom of the ladder and that it is nothing of which to be ashamed.  Guilt and shame are not in the Father’s vocabulary—never.  Eradicate their negative impact from your mindset, as they hold you back.  Surely, you have areas in need of improvement.  None of them is held against you, as long as you do your best to overcome these personal handicaps.

“Affectation ‘fools’ you by making you self-delusional.  What a confusing state of being!  Such a demeanor is frequently unconsciously triggered by the fear of being deemed as irrelevant by the modern-day Pharisees—those posturing as belonging to an Elite.

“Turn to me whenever you are troubled by your self-image.  I hold its original blueprint—the one that makes you look and BE at your best without ever needing to pretend.  If your will is to do the Father’s Will, your efforts will focus on ‘meaning-full’ and ‘soul-expanding’ endeavors that will keep you so enthralled that the opinion of your siblings will not sway you.  You will stand tall on your merits—a shining example of the progressive manifestation of your life purpose.”
