“Are your ideals sufficiently high to ensure your eternal salvation while your ideas are so practical as to render you a useful citizen to function on earth in association with your mortal fellows?”  [UB 156:5:16]

Thought Adjuster: “There are quite a few points worth exploring concerning the above statement. Indeed, the ideals you are pursuing define the quality of the ideas your mind is generating to ‘real-ize’ your goals.

“You could equate your ideals with your intentions. I would say that an ideal is a long-term intention that needs a scaffolding made of an impressive number of short-term initiatives to be ‘eventuated.’

“If your ideals mostly pertain to the material aspect of your planetary life, they will carry the same expiration date as the one stamped on your last breath. On the other hand, if they aim at the attainment of absolute spiritual values, they will gain you access to the ‘afterlife,’ as the pursuit of the absolute values of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness carries over in the eternal hereafter.

“All this was clearly exemplified by the Life and Teachings of Jesus. “He said to them, ‘You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.’” How do you view yourself? How high do you set your sights?

“Those who mostly live on the material level do not differ much from the citizens of the animal kingdom, as they overlook their spiritual endowments—their passport to eternal life.

“Depending on what you aim to accomplish during your earthly life, you will devise methods to do so. It is the reason why setting the right intentions is a determining factor as to your future—or the lack thereof. Your objectives determine your spiritual destination. They are the coordinates you enter in your mental GPS.

“It is how Jesus conducted his life. He knew He was just passing through this world, as His ideals were to guide all souls back to safe passage to the after-worlds. To succeed, He had to make them aware of their kinship as children of the One Father, while exemplifying to them how to live peacefully and productively with one another—a soul training that will yield an eternal pay-off.”
